Mrs Samantha Elliott-Coles

School Director Learning & Teaching


I am currently Director of Learning and Teaching in the Design School within Kingston School of Art. I have taught at Central St.Martins (I am currently external assessor on the BA Fashion, Menswear and Knitwear pathway) and the RCA, I also have experience of teaching at FE institutions. I have extensive experience in knitted fashion design, having run an international accessories label (stocked in Barney's, Isetan, Takashimaya, Browns focus, Liberty's and Selfridges) and worked with both up and coming designers and long established brands to realise knitted garments (Giles Deacon, Gareth Pugh, Bella Freud, Sibling).

I am a published author, the latest being 'Knit, innovations in Fashion, Art and Design' published by Laurence King 2015, my pedagogical work includes presentations at conference through papers and film, the latest being 'Assessing the un-assessed. A case study exploring issues around employability and professional practice through active learning' presented at the HEA conference.

I have a sustained interest in widening participation and outreach work, which has led to projects with a focus on engaging mature learners and the teaching and learning benefits which can be accessed by a diverse cohort.
