I teach the core first-year practical module of news and feature writing and lead the sports journalism strand of the specialisms module for third years and post-graduates. My journalism career encompasses periods as a Reuters foreign correspondent in Rome, Brussels and Lisbon, where I was bureau chief, and more recent stints as a sports reporter and editor, covering Olympics, World Cups, Champions League football and, more locally, Chelsea FC and Wimbledon tennis.I have written for a variety of publications from oil industry journals to the Times Educational Supplement as well as The Observer, The Economist and the New Statesman. My academic background is languages (Royal Holloway, London), I have diploma in Journalism studies (Cardiff University) and I am a fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
