Professor Elizabeth Chell

Professor of Entrepreneurial Behaviour

About

I was appointed to the Small Business Research Centre in 2007 as a part-time researcher. My previous career included chairs at Southampton University (2003-7, retired as director of the Institute for Entrepreneurship); UMIST (2000-2003, as Professor of Enterprise); and Newcastle University (1991-2000, as Alcan Professor of Management). Prior to this I spent 13 years at Salford University, as a Lecturer in OB, Senior Lecturer, and Reader and Director for the Centre for Entrepreneurship.

In 1980 I participated in a conference focusing on small business research and carried out research on the retail news agencies. Building on this, I published a seminal paper  in the International Small Business Journal, 1985, vol 3, no. 343-54. The theme was 'the entrepreneurial personality', which was the subject of a research monograph published in 1991.
