The cost of living in Kingston
Erasmus exchange students do not have to pay any additional tuition fees. However, you will need to budget for:
- roundtrip airfare or other travel costs for getting to the UK
- local travel
- accommodation
- social and course costs
We have used an exchange rate of £1.00=€1.13 in the figures below.
Local travel
Students can use the University’s free inter-site bus service. If you use a public transport, it costs:
- £1.00 for a single bus trip (€1.13) with an Oyster card or £2.00 (€2.26) without an Oyster card; and
- £1.60 (€1.81) for a single journey within zone one of the London Underground with an adult Oyster card or £4.00 (€4.52) without an Oyster card.
You could also take advantage of a daily travelcard. The Transport for London student photo/Oyster card will give you 30% discount on 7-day or longer travelcards and bus passes. You can apply once enrolled at Kingston University.
Visit the Transport for London website for more information about Oyster cards, photo cards and other tickets.
Social and course costs
- Text books: £80–£140 per semester (€90.40–158.20)
- Paper, photocopying, laser printing etc: £60 per semester (€67.80)
- Sundries and personal items: £30 (€33.90) per week
Important note
Financial aid and scholarships for exchange students are normally administered by the student’s home college/university, not by Kingston University.
