Pre-arrival information: Arriving in the UK
Study Abroad students should arrive in time for the orientation programme.
We understand that arriving in a new country can be daunting so Kingston University provides an airport pick-up service for new international, exchange, Study Abroad and pre-sessional English students. It ensures that you are:
- met by a Kingston University representative at the airport when you arrive;
- transported to your accommodation;
- given opportunities to meet staff and other students before beginning your studies; and
- able to access the internet and contact home soon after you arrive.
There is no cost for this service but it must be booked in advance to avoid disappointment. It is only available from Heathrow and Gatwick airports.
Visit our international website for information about travelling to Kingston by public transport if you are not using the airport pick-up service. We suggest that you arrive in the country several days before your classes start, so you can first adjust to your new environment, catch up on any lost sleep and sort out any personal matters.
In addition to our airport pick-up service, we also offer a number of welcome and orientation events to familiarise you with your new surroundings and help you make new friends.
At the airport
You will have to go through both Passport Control (Immigration) and a Customs check when you land in the UK. You may also need to register with the police after you have arrived in the UK.
