Before you leave home: How to apply for accommodation
We cannot allocate housing if you have not selected classes – we need to know which campus you will be studying at. Please submit your class selections as soon as possible if you have not already done so.
The University does not provide accommodation for accompanying family members. However, you can view our list of hotels and guest houses (PDF) suitable for family members.
Lodgings for semester-only students
- How to apply: We will include an application form for lodgings with your offer of a place to study at Kingston. Please return the form as soon as possible, providing a suitable correspondence address and email address.
Once we have received your form, the Accommodation Office will allocate your lodgings. They will then email you with details about your lodgings and the address.
- Accepting your room: As soon as you have received these details, you must contact your landlord/lady to:
- confirm your acceptance of the lodging;
- let them know your time and date of arrival (if known); and
- ask any questions you have about the lodgings – such as whether you will have use of the washing machine or telephone and the landlord/lady's policy about guests.
- Items to bring with you: Your landlord/lady will provide your bed linen. You will also have use of cooking utensils and kitchen equipment to prepare your meals.
If you wish to send any items to your lodgings before your arrival, please confirm first with your landlord/landlady that this is acceptable.
- Paying your rent: Rent is payable weekly in advance with one week’s deposit paid on arrival. The deposit is refunded when you leave, less any deductions for damages.
