Travel and living expenses
In addition to your tuition fees, you will need to budget for:
- roundtrip airfare or other travel costs for getting to the UK
- local travel
- accommodation
- additional fees for courses that are field trip-based
- social and course costs
We have used an exchange rate of £1.00=US$1.65/€1.15 in the figures below. Conversions are rounded up.
Additional fees
- British Life and Culture course fees: £80 ($132/€92) which can be paid in cash or online by credit card. Details will be sent to you when you are registered for the class.
Local travel
Students can use the University’s free inter-site bus service. If you use a public transport, it costs:
- £9.60 for a weekly bus pass to/from the University (US$16/€11) when you use a Student photo/Oyster Card*
- £2.00 for a single bus trip (US$3.50/€2.50). With an adult Oyster Card, it will cost £1.00
- £7.50 per day for an Off-Peak Travelcard within Greater London (US$12.50/€9)
*The Transport for London Student photo/Oyster Card will give you 30% discount on 7-day or longer travelcards and bus passes. The card costs £5.00 (US$8.50/€6) and is valid for one year. You can apply once enrolled at Kingston University.

Social and course costs
- Text books: £80–£140 per semester (US$132–231/€92–161)
- Paper, photocopying, laser printing etc: £60 per semester (US$99/€69)
- Sundries and personal items: £30 (US$50/€35) per week
Students who smoke be warned – a packet of 20 cigarettes costs around US$10/€7!
