English language requirements
You must demonstrate a good level of competence in both written and spoken English before beginning your studies at Kingston University. We accept the following qualifications:
- British Council IELTS Academic English Test
Minimum IELTS score of 6.5 (contact your nearest British Council Office or its local representative for details of the IELTS test)
- Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English
Pass at Grade B (applicants for Creative Writing BA(Hons) and Journalism BA(Hons) will be considered on a case-by-case basis)
- Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English
Pass at minimum Grade C
- Hong Kong HKCEE Use of English
Pass at minimum grade C (Syllabus B)
- Indian Year 12 English
Minimum grades above 70%
- O Level/GCSE English Language Examination
Pass at minimum grade C
- TOEFL
Minimum TOEFL score of 570/TOEFLCBT 230, plus a minimum grade 4–5 in the separate TOEFL Test of Written English/IBTOEFL 88 with 20/30 in each test
- Trinity Integrated Skills in English (ISE)
Pass at Level III
- University Entrance Test for Speakers of Other Languages (UETESOL)

We also welcome applications from students with lower language levels, but your acceptance may be conditional upon:
- achieving the required levels
- attending our pre-sessional English language programme in the summer before enrolment
- taking English language skills classes for credit as part of your study programme
Students with a level of IELTS 6.0/TOEFL 540/CBT207 may be required to attend the five-week pre-sessional English language programme.
Students with a level of IELTS 5.5/TOEFL 520/CBT190 would be required to attend the ten-week pre-sessional English language programme.
