Printing

Print, copy & scan

New Multi-Function Devices (MFDs) have been installed over the summer. These new all-in-one devices offer Black & White/Colour printing, photocopying and scanning.

Returning students

Any existing balance on your print account will be transferred to a new account on a system called Papercut. You will use this print account to pay for all printing and copying.

Your Photocopying card is no longer required. Your Papercut account has been automatically credited with £1 to cover the payment you have made (50p) for this card.

You will need to 'associate' your new Kingston University ID card on any MFD the first time you wish to use them. If you have not yet picked up your new ID card, you can do this at the LRC Help desk at the Nightingale Centre and Penrhyn Road and at Reception at Roehampton Vale and Knights Park.

New students

You will need to 'associate' your new Kingston University ID card on any MFD the first time you wish to use them. Do ask a member of staff if you need help with this or using the MFDs.

How do I print?

  1. Select Print from your workstation. The default setting is DUPLEX (double sided) and to print in MONO (black and white) but you can choose to change these settings.
  2. Go to any MFD and touch your Kingston University ID card on the proximity reader.
  3. Select the print jobs to be printed. Cancel any jobs you no longer want.

The first time you use the new printers

  1. You will need to authenticate yourself. Just touch your ID card on the Proximity reader and then enter your ID number and password on the screen.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions and then Log out.

After you have done this once, you will just need to touch your ID card in order to print, copy or scan.

Logging out of your account

You should take care to logout from the printer whenever you use it in order to protect your print account and credits. There is an automatic timeout.

How do I credit my account?

You can credit your account online via My Kingston. Select Tools and then ePay Print.
The minimum amount you can credit is 25p and there is no maximum. Please note that refunds at the end of your time at Kingston are not possible so do not credit your account with more than you need. It is possible for you to transfer amounts to another Kingston University student.

How much does it cost?

Printing and copying costs per side. Printing on both sides (duplex) and in Black and White (mono) is the default setting.

A4 Mono 2.5p per side 5p per sheet
A4 Colour 40p per side
A3 Mono 5p per side
A3 Colour 60p per side
Please take care not to infringe copyright when you are photocopying. There is information about copyright next to every photocopier and more information in the copyright section.

How do I submit a print job from a mobile device?

It is possible to submit a print job from your laptop, smartphone or other device. Once submitted the document can be printed out by logging on to any of our managed printers.

Option 1: Upload the document you wish to print via the web upload page

Option 2: If you use the Kingston University email service you can log into your account and email print@kingston.ac.uk, with your document as an attachment

Option 3: If your Kingston University email is the default account on your device, simply email the document to print@kingston.ac.uk from within your favourite app

* It is not possible for iphone/iPad users to use Options 1 & 2 but most good apps include email functionality (Option 3).

** HSCS Students with St Georges email accounts should use Option 1 - Web printing.

Please note that any pages containing colour will be charged at the full colour printing rate (40p per side) when using the email option.
