How to use the network printing service
All students are automatically allocated a printing account. Below is a set of step-by-step instructions for what you need to do:
1. Credit your own printing account either using a cash deposit station located in LRCs or online by clicking on the LRC epay link. After authenticating yourself at the cash deposit station via username & password, you have the ability to view or credit your account by inserting cash into the station (minimum £1). We regret that this credit is non-refundable. The database consolidates the transaction after a short delay (up to 2 minutes), and you can then start to print.

If you have problems please contact an LRC Help desk.
2. Print your work from a networked PC and then go through the steps for releasing the print job and getting the output from the printer. This is quite straightforward, because once a print is requested, the system sends the request to a print queue where it is held. You can stay logged in at the PC and go over to a print release station, located in several areas within faculties, in the LRCs, Graduate Centres and the central PC rooms, and:
- Authenticate yourself via your normal username & password at the print release station (this is not a full network login, it is just authentication). Take care to choose the Black and White release station unless you have a whole document to print in colour.
- Look through the list of print jobs displayed on the screen (only your own jobs will be shown), select each one and either Print or Delete it. Deleting a print job from the release station only deletes the print request and not the document itself.
- Once done, finish the session on the print release station by pressing on the Finish option, and collect the output from the printer next to it. The steps described here should not take a long time to do, especially after you have used the system once or twice.
If you try to release a print job when there is not sufficient credit in your account, the system will simply delete the print job and print out a banner page confirming this.
You may choose to release your print job from any print release station that is attached to a printer that has the same printer driver as the one specified via the print request.
Print jobs are held in the queue for a maximum of 2 hours after which time they are deleted automatically - this only deletes the print request and not the document itself.
Printing Costs:
5p per single-sided sheet or 5p for a double-sided sheet.
All printers in the LRC default to double-sided(duplex).
Please note that it is NOT possible to refund unused print credit.
How to print single-sided
PRINT > PREFERENCES > LAYOUT > Select "NONE" on the "PRINT ON BOTH SIDES" option.
