Our Objectives

The Sustainability Hub champions Kingston University’s whole-institution approach to sustainability, co-ordinating and promoting activities through five key strands.

 

Our Objectives:

Community and Outreach

  • To strengthen existing sustainability partnerships within the University and within the wider community and create new alliances and collaborations to develop sustainable solutions.
  • To transcend disciplinary and sectoral boundaries and build links with industry, higher education establishments and government institutions to bring about change and raise the profile of Kingston University.
  • To become a truly inclusive, supportive and inspiring hub that brings together interested groups and individuals and empowers them to make a difference locally, regionally and internationally.

 

Curriculum

  • To enhance existing courses and develop new multi-disciplinary courses that address  the urgent priorities society faces in a changing world. 
  • To energise multidisciplinary discussion and curriculum development at all levels from Foundation and Undergraduate to Postgraduate degrees; embracing all Faculties  engaging with professional practice and re-skilling.
  • To ensure our students become Sustainability literate graduates ready to become leaders of their generation.


Estates and Facilities

  • To improve sustainability performance throughout the Univeristy's campuses through pollution minimisation and resource efficiency. This includes carbon management through energy and water efficiency, promotion of sustainable travel and reducing car use, waste minimisation, sustainable procurement and Fairtrade, sustainable construction and refurbishment as well as improving biodiversity.
  • To create a university estate where students, staff can actively play their part,  to help raise awareness as well as provide learning, research and volunteering opportunities to engage in a sustainable campus environment as well as creating a local community resource.

 

Governance

  • To ensure sustainability issues are fully acknowledged and integrated into Univeristy's core policies, programmes and procedures.


Research and Consultancy

  • To promote all sustainability orientated research activities at Kingston University and support new initiatives underpinned by the principles of sustainability 
  • To create a database of expertise that brings together sustainability knowledge from across the disciplines.
  • To facilitate further development of sustainability focused research projects by encouraging inter-disciplinary, cross-disciplinary and trans-disciplinary collaboration.
  • To forge links with industry, higher education establishments and government institutions that will create further research, collaboration and development opportunities.
