Meet the team

Dr Nor Aziz - Projects Support Officer

Nor's photo

In her current role Nor leads the development and implementation of environmental management system based on ISO 14001 standards. She has a PhD in Business and Environmental Science from University of Warwick, specialising in generating new local economic activities through collective learning. Her main interest is in working together with others to ensure that they feel empowered to act in the environment’s best interest.

 

Prisca Baron - Projects Support Officer

Prisca started her undergraduate degree in Environmental Sciences in France and then moved to England to complete it. After graduating in 2007, she was appointed by Kingston University as a part-time Environmental Advisor for Small and Medium Businesses in Surrey to work with the Surrey Sustainable Business Partnership, a project FUNDED by SEEDA and became an IEMA Associate Environmental Auditor. In April 2008, the Sustainability Team employed her as an assistant and she worked mainly on Environmental Management Systems. Prisca is now assisting the Sustainability Hub with administrational matters and website editing.
Prisca is a member of the University’s Steering Group for Sustainability and an active member of Transition Town Kingston (Media Group).

 

Elise Barron - Outreach & Engagement Manager

Elise works for Kingston University’s Sustainability Hub as Outreach & Engagement Manager, helping to facilitate the growth of sustainability-related outreach activities across the institution and promote the engagement of local organisations with the institution. She first joined Kingston University in November 2007 working as Special Projects Officer for the Centre for Sustainable Communities Achieved through Integrated Professional Education (C-SCAIPE) to investigate project opportunities that further student and staff interaction with the local community. 
Elise has a passion for environmental and social change and her interests include sustainable communities, institutional change and environmental ethics.  She specialises in partnership-building and systems-thinking.
She has a first-class degree in History from the University of York and a Masters degree in Leadership for Sustainable Development. Her studies focused on the practical implementation of the principles of Sustainable Development and included working in a range of sectors for organisations such as the Welsh Assembly Government, the National Trust, and InterfaceFLOR.
Elise is a member of the Royal Borough of Kingston’s Environment Group and Kingston University’s Steering Group for Sustainability.  She is Co-Founder of Transition Town Kingston and Co-ordinator of the Transition Town Abundance Project.

 

Jana Bentley - Campus Operations & Development Manager

Jana joined Kingston University in February 2011 with over 4 years experience in environmental and health and safety management. She has an MSc in Integrated Environmental Studies from the University of Southampton and has worked as a consultant in private, public and non-profit sectors in the Middle East, Europe and South America. In her current role as the Campus Operations & Development Manager, she leads on issues such as environmental compliance, sustainable development, operational efficiency and sustainable procurement. Jana is passionate about designing and implementing practical sustainable improvements in diverse environments. She is enjoying the diversity and challenges that working in the Higher Education sector brings.

 

Dr Katherine Eames - Research & Curriculum Lead

Katherine joined the Sustainability Hub in April 2010 and is responsible for coordinating and promoting sustainability related research and consultancy across the University as well as assisting in the development of postgraduate programmes.  Since joining the Hub she has set up a research student coffee morning series providing an informal forum for discussions and a chance for students to meet researchers from other faculties. 
Katherine has a PhD in atmospheric modelling from the School of Environmental Sciences at the University of East Anglia and a background in Meteorology, Climatology and Oceanography, as well as a keen interest in the challenges involved with creating a sustainable society.  Most recently she has worked on a public engagement research project at Kingston University in the School of Surveying and Planning funded by EPSRC focussing on how the older UK community can be engaged in the sustainability agenda.

Lynsey Stafford - Biodiversity and Landscape Administrator

Lynsey's photo

Lynsey studied Environmental Science at Kingston University, graduated with a BSc (Hons) and started the job of Biodiversity Administrator in 2008. Lynsey's job involves dealing with policy, projects, funding and surveys. She has developed the Biodiversity Policy and Biodiversity Action Plan (KUBAP) which lay out the University’s aims for biodiversity. One of Lynsey's main interests in this job is getting people more aware and involved in biodiversity and outdoor spaces in general.

 

Wayne Hitchings - Energy Manager

Wayne Hitchings is responsible for reducing the University’s consumption of Electricity, Gas and Water. This includes the management of energy efficient projects (lighting heating, ventilation, air conditioning), metering, funding applications, monitoring & reporting, energy procurement and legislative compliance. Wayne graduated from Kingston University with a BEng (hons) in Aerospace Engineering and Astronautics in 2007 where he wrote his dissertation paper on ‘Carbon Emissions Trading and Climate Change’. He is currently a graduate member of the Energy Institute and successfully completed their European Energy Managers course. Wayne was appointed as the University's first ever Energy Manager in June 2008 after completing a year in office as one of the elected Student Union Sabbatical officers.
