Green Impact Teams

Frustrated seeing lights left on? Want to improve recycling rates in your department? You can! The University is expanding and improving its eco champion programme. In the new 'Green Impact' accreditation scheme teams of staff and students are rewarded points for taking practical action to green their workplaces. The scheme recognises and rewards good practice and empowers staff to implement new and simple environmental office procedures. Green Impact also enables departments to benchmark their existing achievements and work to improve them year on year. So get involved and help the university to reduce its environmental impact by joining a Green Impact team in your area.

Kingston University and the students

Kingston University Sustainability Hub understand that Higher Education Institutions have the exciting opportunity of inspiring, educating and developing generations of students and staff communities who will take their experiences of sustainable behaviour into their every day lives, work, and careers. And since teaching is the prime role of the University. We also want to ensure that our students become Sustainability literate graduates ready to become leaders of their generation. And if other Universities have similar objectives, then it's an entire new generation which will be better equipped with responding to the challenges of sustainability.

What is One Planet Living?

The one planet living is a scale to work out how many hectares of land on planet earth it takes to sustain one person throughout their life span. We can then use the scale to work out how many earths this would use up if everybody in the world lived like that person.

For example if everyone lived as we do in the UK we'd need 3 planets to support us. In the United States, this number would rise to 5!!

The one planet living principle lays down 10 basic principles which if followed, should allow the only planet we have to sustain our lives. Check them out on www.oneplanetliving.org. Number 10 is health and happiness!
