Now-Alumnus Then Sustainability Team-Helper Scores Top Social Responsibility Job

Renata Rez, a 2009 environmental management graduate from 'Geography, Geology and the Environment' and former Sustainability Team assistant has just started with Kid Stop, a well-respected charity that diverts children’s goods from landfill and offers it with other support services to parents with young children, particularly those on low incomes, in Sutton and Merton.

Renata with the Kid Stop VanRenata said “I am very excited about my new job which is both very challenging and also very rewarding. My degree equipped me with excellent knowledge and expertise in environmental management and social responsibility issues, and I also gained a wealth of practical experience through my work supporting the Sustainability Team in helping to green the University.”

Renata who supported the Sustainability Team, worked on a number of projects including the role out of the new recycling scheme and awareness campaigns such as Fairtrade Fortnight. In particular she worked for three consecutive years as the Coordinator of the award-winning end of term halls donation scheme, a joint KUSCO and Sustainability Team initiative which has donated nearly 19 tonnes of items to 14 charities in the past 5 years.

Renata at WorkNicola Corrigan, Sustainability Facilitator said “Renata has worked with us for over three years both as a volunteer and as a student helper. She proved herself to be an excellent team member and committed environmentalist. It is really encouraging to hear of Renata’s success, particularly in these challenging times, but I’m sure her practical experience with the Sustainability Team added that extra edge for her in helping to secure this rewarding new role. We are very proud of her achievement and wish her well with her new endeavours.”
