Deputy Vice-Chancellor gives active support to sustainability activities at KU

Incoming Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Dr David Mackintosh said he hoped to give active support to the University’s growing commitment to sustainability. Dr David Mackintosh has a particular passion for Biodiversity and the flora and fauna of the British Isles. As a sustainability champion, he was also asked what his message to staff was. He said: “It boils down to this: the climate is changing; it may or may not be driven by deforestation and industrialisation, though the evidence suggests that it is. The consequences of doing nothing, and finding all climate change predictions have come to pass and could have been mitigated, are infinitely worse than doing everything we can and finding it wasn’t necessary. It’s a no-brainer. And if bigger arguments aren’t enough, the Government, via HEFCE, is imposing demanding environmental impact targets for universities, with financial penalties attached. So what you do at home and at work really does matter.”
