Purchasing Power... Every year the University spends millions of pounds on buying goods and services. The environmental and social consequenses of purchasing decisions must be taken into account in order to ensure sustainable development for the future. When you buy new items do you think about their environmental impact or the social impact the production of those goods had on the people that made them? |
The University has an environmental purchasing policy which ensures sustainability issues are considered as part of the purchasing process from specification to disposal. Current good practice includes buying recycled goods such as, paper, carpets and stationery. The University is also a Fairtrade organisation.
Find out about the University's Environmental Purchasing Policy.
TARGET: To produce a new procurement policy and guide outlining University purchasing procedures that also include sustainability and Whole Life Costing issues by 2013. |
