Purchasing Power... Every year the University spends millions of pounds on buying goods and services. The environmental and social consequenses of purchasing decisions must be taken into account in order to ensure sustainable development for the future. When you buy new items do you think about their environmental impact or the social impact the production of those goods had on the people that made them? |

In September 2009, the Sustainability Team worked with Avenance to implement a 'Bring Your Own Mug Scheme'. Staff were asked to make a pledge to use their new mug rather than disposable cups and were subsequently sent our limited edition of the In-disposable Mug.
Everytime one uses their in-disposable mug to grab a hot drink from any of our Avenance restaurants, one receives 5p off!
Students and other staff should also be able to claim their 5p discount if they order a hot drink and ask to be served in a mug of their own...
The Sustainability Hub is also actively working with Elior to promote Fairtrade food. Find out more here.
