Green Week

Swap shop stall, trash-free ThursdayGreen Week 2015, run by the Environmental Working Group (EWG), aimed to raise awareness about environmental issues amongst Kingston University students and staff. Events included:

  • a fruit and veg sale;
  • a film screening;
  • guest speakers;
  • radio appearances;
  • photo competitions;
  • guided walks; and
  • swap shops.

As well as helping to spread the group's environmental message to students and securing more than 50 signatures for a petition supporting the use of sustainable food packaging in the University's canteens, the events during the week raised £260 for Eco-op, a local environmental charity that works with vulnerable adults.

Fruit and veg stallKingston University's student newspaper The River covered the events of the week:

Overall, the events over the week got good responses from students. The first event was a veggie market, where they sold vegetables and fruits, as well as food made by the vegan and vegetarian society.

Sofie Tellefsen Holm [EWG member] said: "That was really cool, we sold everything and people were positive and said 'oh you should do this every week, this is so good."
