Aircraft Engineering introductory year, foundation degree FdEng and top-up year BSc(Hons): Course features

What this course offers you

  • If you're interested in aircraft maintenance engineering and the idea of signing-off aircraft as fit to fly, this is the course for you.
  • It is specifically designed to help meet the growing need for skilled aircraft maintenance engineers. Our fully-accredited courses meet the exacting requirements of the industry's licensing bodies, which will help you fast track a career in aircraft maintenance and its management. A predicted shortfall of 5,000–6,000 aircraft engineers in the next four years means it will stand you in good stead.
  • You get to work with cutting-edge facilities from the start of your course up to its completion and to work alongside industry leaders like KLM UK Engineering.
  • In addition to academic study, you take work-based modules that give you hands-on experience of:
    • aircraft components and equipment replacement;
    • inspection;
    • condition monitoring; and
    • fault diagnosis and rectification.
  • You also gain an understanding of the work environment and legal requirements relating to the operation of commercial aircraft.
  • Resources include:
    • a Lear Jet;
    • a classic 747 simulator (used as a ground engineer training tool); and
    • an F27 fuselage to take apart and put back together.
  • This course is unique to Kingston University. We have been given the Award of Excellence in Maintenance Training by the EITM.
  • After successfully completing the course and a further period of work experience, you can apply for a European Aviation Safety Agency maintenance licence.
