Architecture BA(Hons): Links with business and industry

How we work with industry partners

Many members of staff work in relevant industry sectors, predominantly in architectural practice but also in landscape architecture, structural engineering and environmental engineering. This means that their teaching includes up-to-date professional experience. They can:

  • tell you what life in industry is really like;
  • explain how buildings are procured and constructed; and
  • help you balance creating experimental, challenging work with meeting the needs of your client.

You can also join discussions with visiting critics and other invited professionals.

We aim to give you real experience of working for a professional client.  So outside companies set projects, often awarding placements or prizes to the best.  This can make a great addition to your CV.

Examples of projects

Recent students have gone on to:

  • work for some of the most highly regarded architectural practices in London and Europe;
  • presented their own designs for the regeneration of Thamesmead to the housing association Peabody, the Greater London Authority and local councillors;
  • exhibited their design work in Seville, Spain following a design partnership with the architecture school there.
