What you need to know before applying

Applications for September 2012 Entry onto the Foundation Course in Art & Design for Home/EU students is now closed we are now only accepting applications from International Students.

How to apply - International students only:

Your work can be submitted on Flickr or on CD-ROM and should meet the same criteria as stated below. Files on the CD-ROM should be organised into a presentation or slideshow format using Powerpoint or PDF to ensure cross-platform compatibility (PC or MAC). If you choose to submit your work using Flickr, please see below. Work submitted in other formats will not be accepted.

  • You must complete the Foundation application form (PDF). 
  • On the application form, you must remember to include your Flickr Screen Name and link (http://) to the 'set' entitled 'Kingston University Foundation Application', where your portfolio can be viewed.
  • The deadline for applications is 1 June 2012.

Once we have received your application form, with your Flickr screen name and full http:// address confirmed on the application form, staff will review your portfolio and determine whether to invite you to interview.  We will include details of what we expect you to bring to interview on your interview invitation email.

Students offered a place on the Foundation Studies Course in Art and Design commencing in September 2012 will be asked to confirm their acceptance within two weeks of the offer being made. 

Your Flickr account must include the following:

  1. 10 images of observational drawings using a range of materials
  2. 10 images of full pages of sketch book work (research ideas etc)
  3. 10 images of final pieces
  4. 10 images of 'things I like'. This section is open to interpretation. We leave the decision of what to include up to you.
  5. Plus: in the 'description' section of your new 'set' you must write a 300-word description of your influences, ambitions and plans for the future.

Please remember that you are in competition with others for places, so try to make your works as accessible to us as possible.

Kingston University offers two portfolio preparation courses aimed at students wishing to apply for the foundation course.

Home/EU applicants should note that this course is a further education course and as such successful applicants are not eligible for student loans, which are reserved for higher education students.
