English language requirements

All international students requiring a visa to come to the UK to study full time on the Foundation Diploma in Art & Design will need to have a UKVI IELTS test as no other tests are currently accepted by the Home Office. On the UKVI IELTS test, students will need to score at least or more than 5.0 overall and none of the components/element should score less than 4.5.

Please make sure you read our full guidance about English language requirements, which includes details of other qualifications we'll consider.

Please note that progression from the foundation diploma course to the BA(Hons) undergraduate courses require an overall IELTS grade of 6.0 with special conditions in all elements.

Applicants who do not meet the English language requirements may be eligible to join our pre-sessional English language course.

Applicants from one of the recognised majority English speaking countries (MESCs) do not need to meet these requirements.

A portfolio is required for entry onto the foundation course. Please check the Applying for this course page to see what we look for in a portfolio.
