Aerospace Engineering, Astronautics & Space Technology MEng/BEng(Hons): Course features
What this course offers you
- These courses are ideal if you're interested in the design, construction and operation of aircraft, but would like to extend your studies up into space.
- Astronautics is the study of subjects relating to the design, construction and operation of vehicles for spacecraft and space missions. These include satellites, probes and manned spaceships.
- The courses are similar to our 'standard' aerospace engineering degrees. You progress from the basic concepts of astronautics and space flight to a more specialist exploration of the design of structures and systems for space vehicles.
- The course has a strong focus on practical applications. You have access to cutting-edge equipment, such as:
- satellite global positioning systems;
- a mission control room simulator similar to that used by the European Space Agency (so you can experience manoeuvring a spacecraft);
- a flight simulator; and
- a Lear jet.
- You have the chance to build a year working in industry into the course. This often improves your performance in the final year and can lead to good job offers after graduation.
- Language tuition is available and you can also choose to go on an international exchange.
- Kingston University is the only UK affiliate campus of the International Space University.
- You have the chance to join our Space Society for Students (KUSEDS), which builds links with other engineering students worldwide.
- There are interesting postgraduate opportunities within the department as we have good links with industry and strong research.
