What this course offers you
- Automotive engineers design, test and develop vehicles and/or components from concept stage through to production. They are also involved in improving the vehicle in response to customer feedback once on the market.
- This course combines theory with practical applications. You gain:
- a thorough technical understanding of the subject;
- high-quality automotive engineering skills; and
- an awareness of business and management issues.
- This degree is accredited by the Institution of Incorporated Engineers and satisfies the academic requirements for incorporated engineer status.
- Design is a key component of this course.
- Subjects such as maths, engineering science and structural mechanics give you a theoretical background. The engineering design modules provide complementary skills throughout the degree.
- The dedicated automotive modules cover:
- different engine and transmission types; and
- braking, steering and chassis systems.
- Project modules mean you can also study a particular area in greater depth.
- We have good connections with industry, which means our teaching covers new technologies and research. There are lots of opportunities to take a placement year out in industry.
- The engineering faculty has large lecture theatres and high-grade practical facilities.
- The annual Formula Student competition lets you compete against other engineering students throughout the UK. You test your skills in a project to design a single seated racecar from a set of limited criteria.
- Language tuition is available and you can also choose to go on an international exchange.
