Automotive Engineering BSc(Hons): What our students say
Student profiles
Don't just take our word for it – here's what some of our current and recent students say about what it's like to study at Kingston.
A student's view of our teaching staff:
"I would recommend Kingston to other people who are thinking of studying Automotive Engineering. The facilities are as good as expected - I think this is the best choice I could have made.
"My maths wasn't the best when I first came, but the lecturers really helped me progress. They help you learn without trying to pressure you into certain corners - they give you a free range to think for yourself."
A student's view of our facilities:
"Kingston University has good facilities, both on the practical side and the technical side. It has equipment for engine testing and performance testing, for example, as well as a lot of lecturers with a good background in the area. So altogether, it was a good choice.
"England is very well known for its automotive industry - there's good motor sport here and there is very good design across the country. The links that Kingston University has with industry are very strong."
An international student's perspective:
"I have always loved cars very much and this course allows me to look at every aspect of the automotive industry. It let me have a little flavour from each area of the industry and then choose a particular area to focus on.
"I would say there is around a 60:40 ratio of theoretical work to practical work. We put all the theory we learn in class into practice so we get a lot of hands-on experience.
"At Freshers' week there were a lot of international people helping international students, so I found the University very welcoming. It was easy to get on."
A student's view of career prospects:
"I was looking through the automotive engineering courses in the UCAS handbook and saw that there were two or three in the London area. Kingston University was perfect in that you have a huge faculty and all the components you need, but also good access to London.
"There are always going to be jobs out there for people like us – people who have got this degree – whether it is in the direct field of automotive engineering or just using the application of what you have done."
A student's view of our links with industry:
"I knew Kingston University had a good reputation for engineering from my previous college. It also has good links with a lot of established companies, such as Lotus. You will come here not knowing very much and you will leave with a vast amount of knowledge."
