This innovative programme brings together academic and workplace learning and experiences. It is designed for technical staff employed in hospital, commercial or research laboratories in fields such as haematology, clinical chemistry, microbiology, immunology, transfusion and histopathology. The course is ideal if you want to develop your career and gain a better understanding of the scientific theory underpinning your workplace activities.

What will you study?

The programme consists of 16 modules, each lasting seven to nine weeks. All the teaching material is delivered online in the virtual learning environment, Moodle. You will examine the roles and functions of healthcare scientists across a range of disciplines, and will build on your knowledge by looking at more specialist areas. Subjects include applied microbiology, transfusion science and applied molecular genetics. You can develop your research skills by completing a project as part of your practice portfolio.
