Civil Engineering BEng(Hons): Entry requirements

Entry requirements for 2017

Typical offer: BEng

  • 112 points: two A-levels including A2 Maths at Grade C
    • General studies at A-level and AS-level not accepted in the tariff
    • Native language at A-level and AS-level not accepted in the tariff
  • BTEC Extended Diploma (DMM) in Engineering related subjects or Construction & Built Environment (Civil Engineering)
    • Merit in Maths for Technicians and
    • Merit in Further Maths for Technicians
    • BTEC subject in Construction and Built Environment not accepted
  • International Baccalaureate
    • 26 points including Maths at higher level (grade 6)
  • Access to HE Diploma not accepted
  • Plus GCSE A*C (or comparable numeric score under the newly reformed GCSE gradings): five subjects including English Language and Mathematics.

Entry to Year 2 and part-time: This mode of entry requires exemption from Year 1 of the course. This is normally attained with a BTEC Higher National Diploma or Higher National Certificate in a related subject, or similar qualification. Applicants for the part-time course should be employed in the construction or related industries.

English language requirements

All non-UK applicants must meet our English language requirements. For this course it is Academic IELTS of 6.0 overall, with no element below 5.5. Please make sure you read our full guidance about English language requirements, which includes details of other qualifications we'll consider.

Applicants who do not meet the English language requirements may be eligible to join our pre-sessional English language course.

Applicants from one of the recognised Majority English Speaking Countries (MESCs) do not need to meet these requirements.
