Civil Engineering BSc(Hons): Entry requirements

What you need to apply for this course

Typical offer: BSc

  • 240 points: two A-levels including Maths at A2 or AS Maths at grade C
    • General studies at A level or AS level counted at half points
    • Native language at A-level counted in addition to the 2 A-levels subjects
  • BTEC National Diploma (MMM) or National Certificate (DD)
  • International Baccalaureate
    • 24 points including Maths or Science at higher level
  • Pass Access to HE Diploma in Engineering – contact us for further information

Entry to Level 2: BTEC Higher National Diploma or Certificate in a related subject.

Plus GCSE (A–C): five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, or Level 2 in Key Skills Communication and/or Application of Number.

Other entry routes

  • Engineering foundation course
  • We will consider a range of alternative qualifications or experience that are equivalent to the typical offer. Applications from international students with equivalent qualifications are welcome. Please contact us for details.

There is an opportunity for Civil Engineering BSc(Hons) students to transfer to Year 2 of the Civil Engineering BEng course providing they meet the criteria and obtain satisfactory grades in all subjects, within the first year of the Civil Engineering BSc(Hons) course.

International students

All non-UK applicants must meet our English language requirements. For this course it is Academic IELTS of 6.0 overall, with no element below 5.5. Please make sure you read our full guidance about English language requirements, which includes details of other qualifications we'll consider.

Applicants who do not meet the English language requirements may be eligible to join our pre-sessional English language course.

Applicants from one of the recognised Majority English Speaking Countries (MESCs) do not need to meet these requirements.
