Civil Engineering BSc(Hons): Entry requirements

Entry requirements for 2017

Typical offer: BSc

  • 96 points: two A-levels including Maths at A2 or AS Maths at Grade C
    • General studies at A-level and AS-level counted at half points
    • Native language at A-level counted in addition to the two A-level subjects
  • 96 points: BTEC Extended Diploma (MMM) or Diploma (DD)
    • Merit in Maths for Technicians and
    • BTECs are welcome in a variety of related subjects – contact us for further information
  • International Baccalaureate
    • 24 points including Maths at higher level (grade 5)
  • Pass Access to HE Diploma in Engineering – Pass 60 credits overall: 45 at level 3, 15 at level 2.  Plus obtain 3 merits in level 3 maths subjects.

Entry to Year 2: BTEC Higher National Diploma or Certificate in a related subject.

Plus GCSE A*–C (or comparable numeric score under the newly reformed GCSE gradings): five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, or Level 2 in Key Skills Communication and/or Application of Number and Level 2 Functional Skills in Mathematics and/or English.

Other entry routes

  • Engineering foundation course
  • We will consider a range of alternative qualifications or experience that are equivalent to the typical offer. Applications from international students with equivalent qualifications are welcome. Please contact us for details.

There is an opportunity for Civil Engineering BSc(Hons) students to transfer to Year 2 of the Civil Engineering BEng course providing they meet the criteria and obtain satisfactory grades in all subjects, within the first year of the Civil Engineering BSc(Hons) course.

English language requirements

All non-UK applicants must meet our English language requirements. For this course it is Academic IELTS of 6.0 overall, with no element below 5.5. Please make sure you read our full guidance about English language requirements, which includes details of other qualifications we'll consider.

Applicants who do not meet the English language requirements may be eligible to join our pre-sessional English language course.

Applicants from one of the recognised Majority English Speaking Countries (MESCs) do not need to meet these requirements.
