"I was attracted to this course because I feel communication and IT provide good employment prospects for the future, and Kingston University was recommended to me. Many people know it has a good teaching quality. Its location is good too – by the river Thames, in a beautiful town with all the shops and leisure facilities you could want, and not far from central London.
"One of the things I have liked best about the course is that so many modules involve programming. Knowing how to do programming in different areas of IT is very important. I also like that lectures are often illustrated by slides, which you can then download in order to revise. Another good thing about the course is that it's very flexible. There are lots of options available and you can choose the modules you want to do.
"I also had the opportunity to work as a Java helper for the University for a semester. This involved answering questions from students of various ability levels about language syntax, general computing knowledge and use of the development tool. I had to tailor my responses according to each individual's level of understanding. This experience taught me a lot about effective questioning and listening skills – as well as giving me the chance to improve my oral communication. It reinforced my technical knowledge, and I gained a real sense of satisfaction through helping others.
"I came here to study from China and I've found University completely unlike my previous college; it's much bigger, there's a lot more information available and there are lots of things you can do. At first I found it quite difficult because the culture here was so unfamiliar, but you soon learn to adapt, and one of the good things about the University is that it's so easy to make friends here."

"I started a degree in Telecommunications in Poland where I come from. But I decided that I would benefit more from the experience of studying in Britain so, after my fourth year of studying a Stationary Telecommunications MSc at Wroclaw University of Technology, I transferred to Communication Systems Technology in Kingston.
"I chose Kingston for several reasons. The Communications Systems Technology degree is quite similar to the Telecommunications degree I had been doing, which meant I could start at Level 2, and I felt it would provide good career opportunities. I found the course director extremely helpful – he sorted out everything in order for me to transfer to Kingston, and I liked the town itself. It's got really good bars and restaurants, a thriving student community and you can get into central London really easily.
"On the course, I have enjoyed the way that you are given the flexibility and freedom to study in your own time. The lecturers are very good. The group work is really enjoyable – it helps you to become really good friends with your course mates because you are working together all the time. For me, the most interesting module so far has been Forensics, which really suits my interests.
"During the last summer holiday I did some work experience, and that was really interesting because I got to see how the programming language we use is actually applied and used in the workplace.
"Once I graduate I am hoping to stay in England for a little while and then go somewhere hot. I feel this course has provided me with skills that I can use anywhere in the world."
