About this course

Why choose this course?

This degree combines a major field in Computing with a minor field in Business. The Computing field covers the structure and operation of computer systems, together with the application of computing technology to software engineering problems and data management.

The Business field is designed to give you a range of professional skills plus the ability to use them within a business context and in solving business problems. The two fields are particularly complementary, as business strategy is increasingly interlinked with IT developments.

What will you study?

In Year 1, the core computing modules will give you a foundation in computing skills, including programming for the web and software development. Two modules from the business field will introduce you to the factors influencing business development and human behaviour in the workplace.

Year 2 computing modules will continue your studies in programming and web applications, as well as giving you an overview of computer systems and experience of database design techniques. The business modules during this year cover major areas of business, such as accounting, marketing and human resources.

The optional professional placement year is an excellent opportunity to use and develop your skills in a real work setting.

Final-year modules in computing consist of core and option subjects (graphics, computer science, e-commerce etc) plus a project module. Business options include Business to Business Marketing, Financial Resource Management, International Business, Management Accounting, and a project or dissertation.
