About this course

Why choose this course?

This course combines contemporary digital technology with visual creativity in moving images, graphics, visual effects and interactivity. It will provide you with the expertise required by the 21st-century digital artist working across various converging media such as the internet, mobile TV and film markets.

You will gain industry-led technical skills, foster a critical appreciation of new media and build the portfolio of work needed to enter your chosen area of the creative industries.

You will be taught by staff from the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Computing and the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture. Both academic and industry-experienced staff teach the practical and conceptual aspects of digital technology as used in contemporary media design and production.

What will you study?

Your studies will be split between:

  • design-based subjects (eg visual thinking, multimedia design and moving images);
  • science-based subjects (eg light, sound and motion, html and digital compositing); and
  • conceptual subjects (eg film studies and creative technology in context).

You will also develop computer skills throughout the course (eg scripting language to make interactive multimedia content). You can choose option modules to specialise in an area of particular interest.
