Don't just take our word for it – here's what students say about what it's like to study at Kingston University.
Name: Michael J Bourke Costello
Course: Cyber Security and Computer Forensics with Business BSc(Hons)
Level: second year
"I have just started my second year studying Cyber Security and Computer Forensics with Business BSc(Hons). I chose this subject because I am interested in computers and how they work. Also I wanted to do a course that would equip me for a job, rather than a general course like economics, which would have been my second choice.
Cyber security students have a dedicated computer lab in a building separate from the main university building. I enjoy the hands on parts of my course such as learning how to recover deleted files.
I chose to come to Kingston because this course is not offered at many universities. Also I didn't do well in my A-levels, but Kingston university gave me the opportunity to do a foundation year which was good.
Next year, rather than going directly to third year I am planning to do a placement year working in industry. This will be paid work and will be very good work experience and good for my cv.
In my first year I was a course representative for my course. I gathered feedback about the course from other students and then presented it in a meeting with staff members and other course reps to suggest things that could be changed or improved.
This year I am working as a student specialist for the faculty, helping at the university on events such as open days and enrolment doing things like showing new or prospective students and their parents around the university and answering any questions they have. It is good work experience and an opportunity to meet lots of interesting people."
