Drama BA(Hons): Entry requirements

What you need to apply for this course

Typical offer

Points:

  • Single honours: 300–360
  • Joint honours: 300–360 (depending on combination)

Grades:

  • A-level: BBB or BBC plus 40/80 points from AS level or equivalent
  • BTEC: DDD

Units: to include three A-levels or equivalent

Subjects:

  • A-level or equivalent: to include Drama / Drama and Theatre Studies / Performing Arts / English Literature (100 points required). General Studies and Native Language A-levels will only be accepted in the tariff score when one of four A-levels or equivalent.
  • Where A-level or equivalent does not include Drama or Performing Arts, other drama/theatre experience will be considered.
  • Key Skills: points not accepted in tariff or accepted in lieu of GCSEs.
  • Plus GCSE: Mathematics and English (grade A–C required).

Further requirements for specific combinations

  • Creative Writing: 80 points at A-level in English Literature, Literature and Language or related subject; 100 points in Drama and Theatre Studies or related subject.
  • Dance: A-level Dance / Performing Arts / English Literature or similar (100 points required).
  • English Language and Communication: 100 points at A-level in English Literature / Language or a related subject.
  • English Literature: 100 points at A-level in English Literature / Language or a related subject.
  • French: 80 points at A-level in French or 40 points at AS-level or GCSE French grade A–B.
  • Media and Cultural Studies: students taking Media Studies A-level must achieve grade C or above.
  • Music: A level Music or Music Technology or equivalent (100 points required). Music theory to ABRSM grade 5 standard required. NB: Competency in reading and writing music from staff notation is essential.
  • Music Technology: A level Music or Music Technology or equivalent (80 points required). Music theory to ABRSM grade 5 standard required. NB: Competency in reading and writing music from staff notation is essential.
  • Psychology: students taking Psychology A-level must achieve grade C or above.
  • Spanish: 80 points at A-level in Spanish or 40 points at AS-level or GCSE Spanish grade A–B.

Other entry routes

We will consider a range of alternative qualifications or experience that is equivalent to the typical offer. Applications from international students with equivalent qualifications are welcome. Please contact us for details.

International students

All non-UK applicants must meet our English language requirements. For this course it is Academic IELTS of 6.5 overall, with special conditions in all elements. Please make sure you read our full guidance about English language requirements, which includes details of other qualifications we'll consider.

Applicants who do not meet the English language requirements may be eligible to join our pre-sessional English language course.

Applicants from one of the recognised Majority English Speaking Countries (MESCs) do not need to meet these requirements.
