Drama BA(Hons): Links with business and industry

How we work with industry partners

Our lecturers have practical and professional experience in a range of contexts. This means that teaching is informed by the latest developments on the 'theatre scene' and you will have access to practical help and career advice from people with insider knowledge.

We also invite guest speakers and visiting companies to work with the students. Past guest practitioners have included: Peter Hall, Jude Kelly, Marcello Magni, Anna-Helene McLean, Miss Tempest Rose; playwrights Howard Barker, Alecky Blythe, Stephen Jeffreys, Anthony Neilson, Steve Waters, Laura Wade; Royal Court literary manager Graham Whybrow, voice coach Barbara Houseman who works with West End actors; and companies such as Frantic Assembly, Third Angel, the David Glass Ensemble, Told by an Idiot, Apocryphal Theatre, Song of the Goat.

Drama students at civic eventStudents are offered opportunities to gain professional experience in the local community, both through modules and the extra-curricular programme. Recent examples include:

  • third-year students being linked with local community groups for whom they create programmes of activities and projects (part of the Applied Theatre module);
  • first-year students performing at the Dorich House Museum in Kingston to audiences from the local community; and
  • students making work for and with stakeholders.
