What this course offers you

  • This course prepares you for employment in the film and moving image industry, in areas outside practical production.
  • It will equip you with the tools needed to analyse the moving image.
  • You will be progressively trained in a comprehensive understanding of key concepts and theories, including ideology, authorship, representation, post-colonialism and post-humanism.
  • Offers an extensive historical understanding, from the 19th century to 21st century developments.
  • Examines film within its historical and cultural context, rather than as a form in isolation.
  • Explores the dynamic between film and a wide range of other cultural forms, such as fashion, photography, literature, visual art and fan production.
  • Examines film and the moving image within an international geographical context, exploring both Hollywood and diverse production cultures around the world.
  • This course will enable you to build a portfolio of writing that demonstrates your ability to respond to film cultures across multiple platforms, from traditional scholarship to journalism, advertising and online content.
