Geography BA/BSc(Hons): Links with other organisations
How we work with external organisations
Staff are involved in active research so illustrate teaching with up-to-date, relevant experience.
Local authorities and government organisations
We have built links with many external organisations, particularly local authorities, including:
- Surrey County Council;
- Kingston Borough Council;
- Environment Agency; and
- Countryside Agency.
These organisations allow visits and provide up-to-date information. This means you gain a good understanding of how they operate and can sometimes secure assistance for your dissertation.
Geography at Work
This compulsory Year 3 module helps to prepare you for the workplace. The course features:
- talks from a number of external employers;
- input from the University careers service; and
- work-related tasks, such as preparing a CV and letter of application or carrying out an interview.
International links
We also have links with international organisations. For example, on the 2008 field trip to Berlin (part of the 'Geographies of Migration and Integration' module) second-year students had the unique opportunity of visiting Angela Merkel's 'Kanzleramt' - the German equivalent to 10 and 11 Downing Street. The national government's integration policy team is based at the Kanzleramt, and students (shown in the photo below) were able to meet one of its integration experts.
