"I chose to study geology because I had been good at geography in my A-levels and I was interested in petroleum exploration. I thought a geology degree would include some of the things I'd liked about geography and help me to get work in the petroleum industry.

"On the course I found the fieldwork really interesting. Because of it I've seen a lot of Britain that I wouldn't have visited otherwise. You do work hard, but you're working in groups with friends so it's quite entertaining. It's like being on holiday, but doing something constructive at the same time.

"I've also liked the practicals that support every lecture. We worked in groups in these too, so you are never alone, just like in the workplace. My lecturers were good. They don't go over your head, but they didn't go at a snail pace either. They managed a pace that suited everyone.

"One of the things that's been good about Kingston for me is there's a lot of sport. I play tennis and I used to sit on the University Sports Council. It made me realise just how much activity goes on.

"The town is nice because it's quite leafy with a river going through it. The fact that it's very near London means you can get there easily, but you still live in the suburbs where it's not quite as expensive.

"I have also enjoyed the University's atmosphere, making so many new friends, seeing different places and learning about a new culture."
