Current fees for this course
The tuition fee you pay depends on whether you are assessed as a 'Home' (UK or EU), 'Islands' or 'Overseas' student. In 2012/13 the fees for this course are:
| Fee category | Amount |
|---|---|
| Home (UK and EU students) | £3,465 |
| Overseas | £11,350 |
| Islands (Channel Islands and Isle of Man) | To be confirmed by the Island Authorities |
This fee applies to students studying for the BSc(Hons) top-up in the 2012/13 academic year.
Eligible UK and EU students can apply to the Government for a tuition loan, which is paid direct to the University. This has a low interest-rate which is charged from the time the first part of the loan is paid to the University until you have repaid it.

Students from England
You may be eligible for a package of support including:
- a low-interest maintenance loan (which you pay back once you are earning);
- a non-repayable maintenance grant (which you do not have to pay back); and/or
- a non-repayable bursary from Kingston University (which you do not have to pay back).
Please note that if you already hold an honours degree, you will not be eligible for a tuition loan, maintenance loan or maintenance grant. However, you can still apply for a Kingston University bursary.
Maintenance loans: This is the main source of support for students in higher education. It helps you to pay for things like accommodation, travel, books, course equipment and living expenses.
There are two maximum rates of maintenance loan:
- £6,928 if you live in your own or rented accommodation whilst studying; or
- £3,838 if you live in your parents' home whilst studying.
The maximum maintenance loan rate increases in line with inflation each year but (for courses of more than one year) will be lower in the final year of your course (because it doesn't cover the summer vacation for that year).
Part of the maintenance loan is income-assessed so the amount you get may be reduced if your household income is more than around £52,000.
Interest will be charged (at the same rate as the tuition fee loan) from the time the first instalment is paid until you have repaid it.
Maintenance grants: Maintenance grants provide additional non-repayable support for your living costs. It is paid instead of part of your maintenance loan (up to £1,493) and is fully income-assessed as follows:
| Household income | Amount of grant |
|---|---|
| Below £25,000 |
£2,906 |
| Between £25,001 and £50,020 |
£2,905–£50 |
| £50,021 or higher | Nil |
Kingston University bursary: Some students will also qualify for a bursary from Kingston University. You do not have to repay the bursary and you can use it for course costs or living expenses. It is fully income-assessed as follows:
| Household income | Amount of bursary |
|---|---|
| Below £1,000 |
£1,000 |
| Between £1,001 and £25,000 |
£600 |
| Between £25,001 and £39,786 | £559 |
| Above £39,786 | Nil |

Find out how to apply for financial support
Students from England can apply online via Student Finance England. You should apply as early as possible in order to avoid any delays in receiving your student finance when you start your course – the application process is usually available soon into the New Year.
You will be able to use your UCAS user name and password and give consent for data from your UCAS application to be used for your student finance application. Once you (and your parents, guardians or partner) have completed the financial information, you will receive information about the student finance available.
Student Finance England will treat this course as a 'new' course so you need to apply as a first-time applicant.
Once the assessment has been completed, Student Finance England will send you a Declaration Form that you must sign and return to them. No student finance will be paid to you until you have returned this form.
If you prefer, you can also apply on paper. If you decide to apply on paper, put Kingston University as your institution and use the university code K84. Make sure that you use a PN1 Application form (for new students) or your application will be delayed.
Students from other parts of the UK should check the relevant website for your part of the UK for more information and to find out when you can apply:
European Union students

If you have not been living in the UK for three years but came to the UK to work and will continue working whilst you are studying, you may qualify for funding as a 'migrant worker' – check with your relevant funding authority or see our see our funding website for more information.
If you do not meet either of these criteria but have been living in the EU for at least three years prior to the start of your course, you may qualify for a tuition loan only. Visit the Directgov website for more information.
