Staff teaching on this course

Geoff Grandfield, course director

Geoff is the full-time course director for the BA(Hons) Illustration and Animation course.  He teaches illustration across all three years of the BA course and co-ordinates the third year (Level 6) of the course.  He graduated from the Royal College of Art in 1987 and has contributed to many newspapers and magazines including the Guardian and the Radio Times.  He has illustrated in many books, including for authors such as Margaret Atwood and John LeCarre for BBC Spoken Word.


Jake Abrams

Jake has worked on children's books, national advertising campaigns and for a range of design clients.


Martina Bramkamp

Martina studied graphic design and animation in Germany before taking her Animation MA at the Royal College of Art in London. Her films 'Heavity' and 'Attempt no.5' have been seen worldwide at international festivals.


Damien Gascoigne

Damien worked on the 'Images Gold' award-winning Powegen commercial and for a whole range of prestigious clients including the BBC. He was also runner-up in the short film category of the 2006 British Animation Awards.


Jonny Hannah

Jonny is a freelance illustrator whose Hot Jazz Special book won a V&A illustration award. He also won a BAFTA award for his animation 'The Man with the Beautiful Eyes'.


Mark Harris

Mark's work is in the collections of the V&A Museum and Deutsche Bank.


Colin Mier

Colin works as an illustrator in publishing, advertising, print, packaging, animation and exhibition design. His clients include British Airways, Unilever, WHSmiths, the Sunday Times, the Financial Times, Penguin Books, HarperCollins, BBC Worldwide and the Natural History Museum (London).


Martin Ursell (visiting)

Martin has illustrated many books for children including the award-winning Songs of Pentecost by W.J. Corbett, plus stories by Roald Dahl, Ted Hughes and Dick King Smith.


Paul Wright

Paul's latest work revolves around the production of illustrated novels, notably Smelling a Rat which was recently published by Jonathan Cape. His career has also encompassed book jackets, television work, newspaper illustration, advertising, animation and mural design.
