International Law LLB(Hons) with professional experience: Work placements

Integrated professional experience and internships

We make sure you make the most of your time at Kingston

Our law degrees include integrated professional experience within the three-year programme comprising:

  • our Professional Readiness Programme;
  • professional experience – options include up to two summer internships or professional modules, depending on availability; and
  • professional development – towards the qualifying law degree.

This is in the time it takes just to gain a degree in other universities, showing the value for time and money offered here at Kingston.

  • Enhancing your CV – work experience will help you stand out from the competition when you look for a job and help you to make better-informed career choices
  • Helping your academic studies – statistics indicate that students who have done placements get, on average, better results in their final year
  • Developing your professional skills – preparing you for your career

In addition, each year many students are either successful in attaining a training contract or receiving a graduate job offer from their placement employer.

How we help you

During your first and second years, in addition to developing your subject knowledge, you will receive a substantial programme of skills training and support from our Business and Professional Experience team to ensure you are work-ready. These skills are welcomed by employers and students alike as they ensure you make the most of both your study time and your professional experience.

Our Professional Readiness programme equips you with the skills to enable you to undertake a professional internship option with confidence and prepares you for the real world of work. Where possible professional internships are paid and, although these internships are very competitive, our Business and Professional Experience team will work with you every step of the way. Alternative professional activities are available for students, including modules such as Professional Practice and Ethics; Mediation; and Dealing with and Managing Change. There is also the option to spend an additional year studying abroad at one of Kingston University's partner institutions located all over the world.

Kingston University uses its wealth of contacts to help you get the best possible internship. It enjoys an excellent relationship with a wide range of organisations, from global multinationals to small cutting-edge enterprises and the public sector. These links also  ensure that the calibre of Kingston graduates is recognised by potential employers.

We will also provide you with support during your internship. This will help you make the most of your learning, applying theory to practice, and really make a success of your internship. Previous students have completed internships at companies including:

  • Norton Rose Fulbright
  • KPMG
  • BM Advisory (formerly Atherton Bailey)

Law internships

Whilst studying law at Kingston, some of our students have also completed short internships to enhance their professional skills in a law context. Companies have included:
