About this course

Why choose this course?

This course enables you to learn more about international relations by analysing wars, invasions, imperialism, conflict resolution and the role of nation states and international agencies in the international system. It looks at highly topical issues from a variety of disciplinary viewpoints.

Students who would like to combine international relations with politics or human rights should apply for our Politics and International Relations degree. See the course combinations section for more information about the other joint honours options.

What will you study?

You will examine international relations theory, nationalism, the nation state and the evolution of the international system. You will look at case studies (Iraq, Israel–Palestine) to find out how international problems can be analysed and understood. You will study the processes and structures of international bodies (eg the United Nations and International Monetary Fund) and will examine competing perspectives on globalisation.
