IT for E-Business FdSc: Course features

What this course offers you

  • These foundation degrees enable you to gain strong IT skills to support the development of e-business solutions.
  • Different pathways allow you to tailor the course to your own interests:
    • the 'Web Specialist' pathway covers website design principles, current web technologies software and relational databases (design and administration);
    • the 'Network Specialist' pathway covers network protocols, LANs, WANs, hardware, software and network security;
    • the generic pathway ('Core Skills') allows you to choose modules from all of these areas.
  • You will also gain communication, problem-solving, numeracy and teamwork skills.
  • You can choose to study alongside full-time employment and can apply what you learn to practical problems in the workplace.
  • You have the chance to obtain a Vendor Certification (Cisco, Microsoft, Oracle, Zend, CompTIA or Macromedia). This means you obtain both an academic and professionally recognised award.

  • On successful completion of the FdSc, you have the opportunity to 'top up' to an honours degree at Kingston University. The top-up can be completed full- time in one year or part-time over two years.
  • There is also the possibility of topping-up to BSc(Hons) level through a course incorporating an industrial placement year (previously known as a sandwich course). The year of paid employment means you would graduate with additional professional experience in IT.
