Journalism and Media BA(Hons): Course features

What this course offers you

  • The degree combines theory and practice at every level, requiring you to analyse and reflect on central issues in contemporary journalism and the media, and to test out your understanding by applying it in a variety of contexts.
  • Benefit from the use of two dedicated newsrooms and a broadcast studio.
  • Develop your knowledge and understanding of particular media forms and engage critically with different forms, modes and styles of journalism across media platforms.
  • Become competent with digital technology related to the course, including digital images, video and basic coding to design software.
  • You'll be encouraged to use your creativity to produce a portfolio of work throughout your degree and gain invaluable experience by undertaking a supported journalistic work placement.
  • Work on the award-winning campus newspaper as part of the course.
  • Learn cutting-edge business, content and creative skills required for communication practice across diverse media and markets.
  • Develop an ethically informed and critical awareness of the roles and responsibilities of journalists in contemporary society.
  • Work placements are actively encouraged and form part of the final year programme - although it is your responsibility to source and secure placements.
