Landscape Architecture BA(Hons): After you graduate
Where this course will take you
Our BA(Hons) Landscape Architecture is professionally accredited by the Landscape Institute (LI), which means that you can work towards a professional qualification and full chartered membership of the Institute after you have graduated.
Former Kingston students work in the UK and internationally for landscape practices such as Land Use Consultants (landscape architects for the Eden Project) and EDAW (master planners for the Lea Valley Olympic site); others work in the public and environmental sector.

Name: Paul Campbell
Course: Landscape Architecture BA(Hons)
Year of graduation: 1999
Current job: Urban designer at the London Development Agency's Design for London
Location: London
Paul has worked in the London Development Agency's Design for London team as an urban designer since 2007. In this role he project manages some of the mayor's 'great spaces', priority parks and street trees programmes. For example, Paul is currently supporting the economic viability of the city's largest industrial estate Park Royal, through a transport and public realm strategy, and is developing related masterplans with the London boroughs of Ealing and Brent.
Paul recently led the launch of Windrush Square in Brixton with Lambeth and the GLA Group and advises many of the boroughs on their public realm aspirations. Supporting the delivery of the East London Green Grid sites, he works closely with the Environment Agency and multiple third sector partners to holistically improve green spaces.
Before the LDA, Paul worked for two years as an urban designer at Transport for London, advising on interchanges and streetscape schemes, and creating a retail strategy for London Underground. From 1999 to 2005 Paul worked for a number of design practices which specialised in sustainable landscape, social housing and masterplanning.
Paul is also an independent adviser for the National Trust and the government's landscape skills body LANTRA.
"My time at Kingston University was some of my most creative and enjoyable student years. The Landscape Architecture programme was a fantastic foundation to my further design career."

Name: Tony Harwood
Course: Landscape Architecture BA(Hons)
Year of graduation: 1999
Current job: CAD Technician, LDA Design Consulting LLP
Location: Peterborough
A careers adviser gave Tony the idea of studying landscape architecture and it turned out to be his ideal subject. He is now working as a CAD* Technician and loves the variety and creativity of his role.
*CAD refers to the computer software draughting programme used by architects, engineers and landscape architects.
"I was at art college and deciding which direction to take next when I went to a careers adviser. She mentioned landscape architecture and I looked into the subject and realised it was what I wanted to do. It combined art and geography, which were two subjects I did for A-level and, because of its sympathetic environmental qualities, opportunities for landscape architects are likely to increase in the coming years.
"Kingston provided a very relaxed environment which I liked and the course covered so much I was sure it was completely different to any other subject. We studied art, science, geography, maths and English all rolled into one. There were also great field trips and the opportunity to be outdoors. It was just great fun.
"After my degree I went for various interviews and was asked to join LDA Design as a trainee landscape architect/CAD technician. LDA Design is a practice of landscape architects, architects, urban designers, ecologists and environmental planners. It has offices in Exeter, Oxford, London and Peterborough, and is a leading name in large-scale strategic environmental planning, yet it will design at the scale of a courtyard.
"I can use everything I learnt in my degree in my current position. What I enjoy most is that every day there is a new project to work on and producing drawings with my name on as the draughtsman is immensely satisfying."
