Marketing & Advertising BSc(Hons) with business experience: Course features

What this course offers you

This course offers you a thorough grounding in key business disciplines, with a focus on advertising, marketing management and the broader marketing communications mix. It provides you with a deep and broad understanding of all the marketing disciplines, giving you a wide choice of career routes. You would be particularly well prepared for a career in marketing communications planning, either client-side or agency-side having gained hands on experience during your work placement.

The course is part of the Chartered Institute of Marketing's Graduate Gateway scheme, meaning that you study for the CIM Professional Diploma alongside your degree. Students also have the opportunity to take the PRINCE2 project management qualification, meaning your CV will really stand out in the crowd.

As a marketing and advertising student you'll become part of a vibrant and welcoming Kingston Business School. We have recently been awarded the prestigious international accreditation by the AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business), a hallmark of excellence in business education. The accreditation has only been earned by five per cent of the world's business schools.

The school is a signatory of the United Nation's Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) charter. This shows our commitment to responsible management, ethics and sustainability, and we embed this in your teaching.

Business Readiness Programme

Alongside your degree we also provide a Business Readiness Programme which will enable you to undertake a placement option with confidence. It prepares you for the real world of work by ensuring when you graduate you have a clear understanding of how you can add value to future employers. You will be taught by a team of experienced professionals.

You will explore topics such as understanding personality traits, developing your individual strengths, resilience, and interpreting and learning from appraisals. You will develop IT, communication and personal branding skills and learn to produce brilliant presentations along the way.

As the course develops you can follow your own interests in more depth through a variety of specialist sessions. Examples current students are taking include a leadership workshop, an entrepreneurship expert panel or ‘a day in the life ...' and ‘careers in...' sessions.

You'll leave having developed the keys skills companies are looking for: building and maintaining a career-enhancing professional network; time and self-management; team working and leadership skills, and professional and business etiquette.

We will also support you in preparing you for your work placement through workshops on:

  • The application process including researching and targeting your placement.
  • Writing your CV and cover letters and getting ready for interviews.
  • How to use your placement to benefit your future career.
  • Managing relationships at work and evaluating your progress.
