About this course

Why choose this course?

This mathematics degree includes a minor field in business studies so is the ideal choice if you are interested in developing mathematical skills with a business emphasis. Roughly 40 per cent of the curriculum will focus on business topics, while the remainder of the course explores core themes in mathematics and mathematical computing.

The course is designed as a flexible programme of study. You can take an option module from the Kingston Language Scheme and choose to spend the third year of the course on a professional placement.

What will you study?

This course emphasises career skills and progresses from introductory maths modules in Year 1, which lay the foundations for a range of more exploratory subjects in Year 3. You will study mathematics modules that cover mathematical modelling (including operational research) and computer programming with applications. You will be taught and encouraged to use computer software for presenting reports.

In the business element of the course, your studies will progress from a wide focus on the external and internal environment of companies in Year 1, to specific areas of business such as marketing and accounting in Year 2 and competitive strategy in Year 3.

A range of optional business modules is available in the final year, enabling you to choose from subjects such as Business to Business Marketing, Financial Resource Management, International Business, and Management Accounting.
