Don't just take our word for it – here's what students say about what it's like to study at Kingston University.
Name: Zalihe Yarkiner
Course: Mathematics with Business BSc(Hons)
"When I decided to study in the UK, I applied to six universities through UCAS to mathematics with business management courses, and I was accepted by all of these universities. However, I decided to come to Kingston University because both the University and Kingston were a perfect combination when considering my priorities. As a university, it was a high ranked university in my field, location wise it has a perfect transportation links to London within 15 minutes, and as well as this it is in a safe and quiet area. Considering me, when you come to university from abroad, when it is your first time coming to UK and when you are only 17 years old, the city you will live in is as important as university.
Why mathematics with business? Actually, joint degrees are offered in very few universities, Kingston University is very flexible and helpful in offering joint courses. In my field, I always wanted to study mathematics because I always loved the topic at high school, however, when thinking about job opportunities after graduate, I wanted to have a wider spectrum of options and I wanted to choose my field to specialise in after actually getting some information about the field. Therefore, I combined mathematics with business.
During my undergraduate years at Kingston University, I found the course very well organised and structured, staff and lecturers were always being very helpful and friendly. This was very important for me and I am so glad that I studied my degree in this university by getting help and knowledge from the approachable, expert people. Their approaches have made me to feel at home and for this reason, I love the University, the atmosphere and the city.
I have decided to move my career on the field of statistics at Kingston, and I have started to study a PhD in applied statistics where the field is medical statistics. I am currently in my final year of this course and writing my thesis.
During this research, the support from the University to attend different training courses and conferences, being able to talk with different expert people at different fields and the opportunity to collaborate with other universities in SAWN such as St George's University have improved my skills, abilities and knowledge – making me an expert in my field.
Finally, as a student who has being in Kingston University for eight years, I can say that I am very happy and glad to be here and if I could go back in time, I would have made the same choices again."
