Medical Technologies FdSc: Pathway options

Focus on specific areas

The degree offers three pathways to allow you to concentrate on a specific area within the field:

Medical Technologies (Medical Equipment Technology)

This is the broadest of the three pathways. It provides the knowledge and skills needed to operate and maintain different medical instrumentation used in the treatment of patients in a variety of different contexts, including:

  • laboratories;
  • dental practices; and
  • hospitals.

Medical Technologies (Medical Device Decontamination)

This pathway specialises in the decontamination of medical equipment. This applies not only in respect to the management, validation and verification of the decontamination cycle, but also in ensuring that quality and standards are maintained.

Medical Technologies (Medical Gas Technology)

This pathway concentrates on the supply of medical gases and the regulations, standards and codes of practice surrounding their use. It also looks at the operation and control of medical gas pipeline systems.
