Music BA(Hons): Events and lectures
How you can get more involved
Musical Activities and Events
The Music Department has a strong commitment to musical activities of all kinds, with regular public concerts on campus, in venues throughout the Kingston area and in Central London.
These involve music groups such as the University's:
- Orchestra
- Wind orchestra
- Big Band
- Improvisation Group
- Kingston Contemporary Ensemble
- Kime
- Early Music Ensemble
- Gamelan
- Djembe (West African drumming)
- Chorus
- Vox (popular music choir)
- Chamber Choir
Music staff offer support and encouragement to students forming their own bands. We regularly promote band nights at the Grey Horse and other local venues. Performing groups participate in local events, such as the annual Kingston Arts Festival and Kingston Festival of the Voice.
We also promote a series of classical concerts in leading local venues. These concerts feature top international artists such as the Chilingirian Quartet, John Lill and Alfred Brendel and artists linked to the University such as AHRC Research Fellow, Jane Manning, and ensembles in residence, The Delta Saxophone Quartet and Fibonacci Sequence. Further details regarding concerts and upcoming events can be found here.
Masterclasses and workshops by national and international performers and composers working across a whole range of musical genres and styles are a regular feature of music courses. A series of lectures, open to all, by visiting speakers is a feature of the level 3 Research Seminars module.
